  2. Losses never go away, which I suppose is part of the essence and uniqueness of our human spirit. You have a gift of expression that should make your writing a success.

  3. I have to say it is very entertaining and I still find myself thinking about Billy, Lindy, Dog, Spy and the rest of the gang. You do have a gift in building these characters in the readers mind.

  4. For anyone who has experienced a loss whether it was a friend, a lover, or a family member, Mark has transcended the feelings of grief experienced by that tragic event into this book for us all to relate too. With lifting innuendo’s of real life mixed in with the sad reality that we all will face in one way or another.
Life goes on,... it never stopped,... the world still goes around,... a seemily once dead tree will push leaves towards the sun,...

This book will restore your sense’s from “all is lost” to “nothing is lost, all is still there to gain.”

    Thank you Mark.

  7. Very creative and imaginative. The story holds the reader’s attention. This novel reveals the ups and downs of life. Refreshing! Very ‘catchy’ title. All the best!

  11. This great book deals with one of life’s hardest emotions to deal with, the loss of a loved one and various ways of coping. The characters in this book come to life rapidly, engaging the reader to not want to put it down until finished. What a truly imaginative and novel idea to incorporate music into the story! A must read for everyone and especially those who relate music to life’s challenges!

  12. Mark,

You once advised feedback is welcome. I finished the book earlier today. I think it is a great book, and I see it as a great screenplay as well. A lot of guys are going to relate to Billy. It reminded me of my own days..not to long ago at the rugby house a.k.a “Handy-House” running with a pack, working at a bar, women!!!, and trying to figure out if and when to move on. I think people will also find comfort in these characters working thru there loss, as most people have felt this loss unfortunately. Congratulations on a great story!

    -best of luck.

  13. Mark,

    This is a great book.

It brings back memories from some of the best times of our lives, and some of the more difficult. One may say “...we have seen it all…”, and others will say “...the best is yet to come…”

Live every day to the fullest and enjoy the moment today….

There is so much we can all relate to…(some more than others!!!)

    —Thank you Mark.
And yes, I am the original Spy. Cheers!

  14. Great read, I loved your book. It was a fun and entertaining trip to recovery and I tell you those people reminded me of my college life with AHP and specifically Pat and Kevin. We lived like they did and your book brought back floods of memories. Very well written and a must read for everyone because at some time in our lives we are going to go thru events that we will need guidance on how to get out of the deep dark places our minds can take us! Cant wait for the book signing and release party.

  15. Mark,

I want some of what you were smoking when you wrote it! MY GOD, it’s so f—-ing good! I can’t put it down, but I’ve been having to, though, because we, like, had to land the plane and stuff!

You my friend are onto something big. Well done!!!!! Will send you my comments when I’m done… but so far, only one question mark and mostly LOL’s and “I love thats”.

I can’t wait to see what happens to Billy’s flying career… (He just found his Kershner). Shutting the computer down now and headed to bed with your book. (In Osaka)

  16. Mark, now that I have finished reading “Pushing Leaves Toward the Sun”, I want to add to my previous review: I have been moved to the core by your words. Words are usually so weak, and yet you found a way to use them in a way that made me laugh and cry and think and wonder. I can’t wait to tell the whole world about it. I wish you great success (á la Borat!)

  17. FINALLY I have finished your book. I thought it was GREAT! Good story. Well told. Easy read. I think it articulated the concept eloquently without being too heavy. And the song lyrics were great. Would love to hear the finished versions once they are put to music. Also — cute take on Billy and Lindy’s names. Liked the canine reference (Shepperman/Huskador)... given the inspiration being your pups. Very cute.

  18. Mark,

I just finished reading your book and was really drawn in by your writing. The parallels between the people, places and situations seemed very real. I’m sure many people will be able to make the connections to their own lives in some way or another as I did. The story seemed very familiar to me and brought back some great memories from the past.

I feel very lucky and privileged to have been able to share a friendship with you and some of those other characters.

    Best of luck. Cheers!

  19. An absolutely fantastic book! Couldn’t put it down. Looking forward to hearing the rest of your lyrics put to music. The first two songs are fantastic! An ingenious way of incorporating them into the story. Good luck to you Mark…not that you’ll need it!

  20. The book is great!!! I would like to thank; Mr. Mark Berry, For choosing me and my dealership, BMW Motorcycles of Las Vegas, to bring the “Phoenix” to life. It was a great pleasure, I hope it will give you the lifetime of service and enjoyment I had planned to get out of it for myself. I enjoyed building the motorbike to fit your needs. The Ride is on!

  21. I think you took a very heavy subject and wrote a very light and easy to read book. I was sad when I came to the last page.

  23. Words and music…Bravo my good fraternity brother on a job well done. I got a great kick reading the elements of the story where I appeared to rub off on you. But I am especially honored to be included as
part of Lindy’s band. No small feat considering I’ve never touched the melodica !

    Cheers !

  24. Very cool, Mark. I finished the novel a couple weeks ago and it was really an enjoyable read. I loved the characters and the way you introduced them and how you wove them all into the story was VERY impressive to me as a reader. EXCELLENT first effort. Are you working on another ???
